Ronaldo happy at United
Monday, December 17, 2007

Cristiano Ronaldo is looking for a lengthy stay at Manchester United, according to an interview with a Spanish newspaper.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract extension this summer that keeps the Portuguese winger at Old Trafford until 2012.

Before he put pen to paper on this new deal, there had been speculation about a move to Spain, and he told the Marca newspaper that Real Madrid are not in his plans.

“Real Madrid are a great club, everybody knows that. But I insist that I am very happy at Manchester United and I want to continue here for many years.”

Ronaldo went on the attack at suggestions that playing in England may hinder his chances of winning this year's FIFA World Player of the Year award.

“Not at all. I think that the English league since last season is the strongest above the Italian and Spanish.

“In England all the stadiums are full and any smaller team can now win against the big teams.

"As well as that, the play is not stopped so many times, it is very fast, intense and aggressive, and the players are stronger,” Ronaldo also told Marca.

There have been nine goals so far this season for the former Sporting Lisbon player and he feels United will end yet another season with silverware.

“I think that Manchester United have a great chance, we are very strong in The Premier League and in the Champions League.”
