Ronaldo keeps on improving - Vidic
Saturday, January 19, 2008
NEMANJA VIDIC believes Cristiano Ronaldo is playing even better than last season – when he helped inspire Manchester United to the title and won three player of the year awards.
Ronaldo has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season and is favourite to retain his PFA Player of the Year crown.
Defender Vidic said: “We are very strong with him. Last season was a great season for him, he scored so many goals.
“He was under big pressure to improve again this season and, up to now, he has played great in the games and in training.
“Every game you need to improve at this club. Everybody has sides to their game that they can improve and he has tried to fix his in training.”
Ronaldo will have chance to add to his goals tally at Reading tomorrow, with Royals manager Steve Coppell praying the Portuguese ace has an off day.
Coppell, a former United winger himself, said: “Ronaldo's goalscoring record is phenomenal for a wide man.
“He's scoring goals and he's also creating things for the team as well. He's got an awful lot going on in his game and he's a threat to any side in the world.
“You can only stand back and admire him because he's broken the mould in terms of what wide players can do.”
However, Coppell has warned United they will not get it all their own way at the Madejski Stadium.
"We've got to think we can get something from these games,” he added. "We've got to think we're capable of getting points off them.”
