Manchester United are waiting on a UEFA match report to determine what action can be taken against Lyon after Cristiano Ronaldo was targeted with a laser pen during Wednesday's Champions League game.

United's Portuguese winger was targeted in the warm-up, and although he suffered no apparent ill-effects United coach Sir Alex Ferguson said afterwards that the club had made a complaint to UEFA before kick-off.

"We reported the matter to UEFA before the game," said Ferguson. "We noticed it in the warm-up and UEFA are aware of it."

A spokesman for European football's governing body indicated Thursday that it required more information from the referee, Luis Medina Cantalejo, and its own match delegate Jan Damgaard before commenting further.

"We need to have more information about it, then a decision will be taken," a UEFA spokesman told the BBC.

"If it proves to be correct then, in this case, it would be viewed as misbehaviour of the supporters, which would then be investigated. We have a whole range of different disciplinary measures, beginning with a warning, then fines and so on," the spokesman added.

Television pictures suggested Ronaldo was again targeted during the match itself, which ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving United handily placed to reach the last eight as they bid for their third European crown.

Carlos Tevez scored for the English Premiership giants three minutes from time after Karim Benzema had put the French ahead early in the second half.
