Capello thinks Messi is better than Ronaldo Friday, February 06, 2009
England manager Fabio Capello believes Barcelona playmaker Lionel Messi is the best player in the world.
The Italian tactician thinks that there is no other player in the world who has much talent as the Argentinian superstar – even current world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo. Capello also feels Messi can be as good as his compatriot Diego Maradona.
"He (Messi) can do incredible things and is an exceptional player," said Capello. "He is Maradona's successor.
"Ronaldo is a player with great speed, very good, very dangerous, very technical. He has an extremely high level, but it is Messi that is brilliant."
Messi has been in sensational form this season and has been on the forefront of Barcelona's surge to a 12-point lead in La Liga.
The 21-year-old has already grabbed 21 goals this season from right-wing and has 11 assists to his name so far. He has also lit up the Spanish game with a number of sensational goals this season and forged a formidable attacking partnership with Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry.
Messi came second to Ronaldo in the world player of the year awards, but if he continues to perform like he has so far this season, then he will no doubt be the favourite to win the world player of the year title next year.
