Ronaldo in new contract talks Sunday, March 15, 2009
Cristiano Ronaldo is in talks over a new £180,000-a-week deal after dropping his biggest hint yet that he has put any move to Real Madrid on the back burner.
Ronaldo was desperate to uproot to Real Madrid last summer only for Manchester United to resist a £60million world-record offer.
It’s expected that Real will be back again at the end of this season after another disastrous Champions League campaign.
But with Ronaldo enjoying life at Old Trafford, the club have responded by opening talks with the Portuguese winger’s representatives, even though his current £110,000-a-week contract still has more than three years to run.
United are also aware that he can buy himself out of his current deal at the end of next season for £16m.
But right now Ronaldo appears content.
He said: “I’m happy. United is still the best team in Europe and the Premier League is the most competitive and I feel happy here.”
