Ronaldo apologizes for sending off Sunday, December 06, 2009
Cristiano Ronaldo tried to explain the reasons he was send off in 88th minute of his side's 4-2 win over Almeria on Saturday night.
Ronaldo was shown a yellow card for celebrating the goal he had scored in the 84th minute of the game and four minutes later saw another yellow and a subsequent red card for a kick at Almeria's Juanma Otriz.
In fairness the card he was shown for his second action should have probably been a direct red.
The sending off capped an eventful night for the player, who won a debatable penalty, missed it and was seen sulking even as team mate Karim Benzema scored from the rebound.
It also means he misses next weekend's trip to Valencia, one of the toughest games of the season for Real Madrid.
"The sending off was an instant reaction. I know that I made a mistake, but I am human," Ronaldo said in Sunday's edition of sports paper Diario AS.
"These are things that happen in football and I hope that I don't do it again. I want to apologize to myself, my companions and also to my family," he said.
Real Madrid's Director of Sport, Jorge Valdano also commented on the sending off.
"We have to see the cards as errors that he has to correct. Cristiano is intelligent and I am sure he is annoyed with himself," he said.
