Ronaldo shows his loyalty to Real
Sunday, April 04, 2010
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a look ahead towards the end of the current season and even as far as the end of his career as a footballer.
The 25 year-old became the most expensive footballer in the World when Real Madrid paid 95 million euros to buy him from Manchester United last summer.
His dreams of winning the Champions League with his new club lay in tatters following the last-16 defeat to Olympic Lyon, while Madrid was knocked out of the King's Cup by third tier team Alcorcon.
The good news, however, is that Real is joint leader of the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga along with FC Barcelona.
With both sides apparently unstoppable, 21 points ahead of third placed Valencia, next weekend's 'Classic' between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is expected to decide who wins the league title.
Ronaldo admits the importance of beating Barcelona, but warns that his side cannot slip up in any of its other games.
"We have nine matches left and we need to think of them as finals and win them all. The league may be decided by the Clasico, but we cannot just win at home and then lose on the road. I am very confident about our chances," he told Spanish national television station, RTVE.
With the title decided on head to head goal difference in both teams are level on points, it is important that Madrid beats Barcelona by more than 1-0: the score they lost to Barcelona in the first meeting of the campaign.
"Real Madrid played one of its best matches of the season at the Camp Nou, but we lost. This time I prefer to play poorly and win in the Bernabeu," said Ronaldo, who looked further ahead than the end of the current season, highlighting his ambition.
"I always want to win and improve. I know it's hard to do, but nothing in life comes easy. If it was, we wouldn't be born crying," he said.
Ronaldo has a contract with the club until the end of June 2015, by which time he will be 30 years old. He cannot see himself playing at another club.
"During the years I play for Real Madrid, which I hope is the last team I ever play for, I will give everything I have and prove to the club and fans that the amount of money paid for me was we worth it," he promised.
