Ronaldo will bounce back - Fergie
Tuesday, December 20, 2005

Backing from Sir Alex
Cristiano Ronaldo will overcome his nightmare off-field season to shine on the pitch, believes manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

A dismissed allegation of rape and the death of his father in the last few months look to have taken their toll on the 20-year-old so far this term.

His inconsistent performances have led to criticism in some quarters - and staunch defence from Reds support after all his travails in others.

But with the winger set to feature against Birmingham this week in the Carling Cup Ferguson has given his backing to the Portuguese star.

"He has had a turbulent time, the boy," he told United's official website.

"But eventually he will come through. We're sure of that. It’s only natural for a young player to have a reaction to what he's been through."

"It is a problem because there are high expectations. There is an expectancy to win every game. But long-term we’re confident about him and the player he will become."
